Breathe Better This Cold and Flu Season ~ Make Your Own Vapor Rub

This year's cold and flu season is upon us.  That said, it is inevitable that someone close to you (maybe even you) will have some form of a cold or flu in the near future.

By blending therapeutic grade essential oils and either inhaling them through a vapor rub (recipe below) or massaging them into the skin through a carrier oil, cold, flu and minor respiratory infection symptoms can be lessened.

Use approximately 10 drops total of essential oils per 4 Tablespoons of carrier oil (such as grapeseed, sesame, jojoba or olive).  If you are making this mixture for a child, only use 1 drop per 4 Tablespoons carrier oil.

Heavy Metals in Halloween Face Paint

Halloween is so fun for everyone.  Dress up and become someone or something else.  It's a time for bonding and family and . . . toxins?

The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics has released an article showing the dangers of the ingredients found in the face paints we use for Halloween costumes.

Keep Those Lips Kissable in the Chapping Weather

Now that the weather is changing, it is almost a given that your lips will start drying and chapping.

A great way to keep your kissers soft and supple all year long, is to exfoliate the dry stuff off on a semi-regular basis, so you never get to get too dry.

This is what you'll need: 

1 tsp honey

1 tsp sugar (brown or granulated

1/2 tsp lemon juice

1/2 tsp castor oil

Just mix together honey, sugar, lemon juice and castor oil to make a thick paste.  Take a small portion with your finger and rub with moderate pressure over your lips. 

You'll start getting addicted to how soft your lips will actually feel.  Keep the left over in a small container to use every few days.

Simple, but powerful!  Then, of course, you need to use a safe, hydrating lip balm during the day.  Your lips will love you for it!

What's a PAO Icon?

Have you ever seen this graphic icon on your beauty products or personal care products and wondered what it meant?  For the longest time, I thought it was either some European way of measuring or some type of industry code for the ingredients.  I had no idea.   
Well, come to find out it's actually there for the consumers' benefit.  The open canister icon is supposed to represent an open package and the numbers on the face of the jar icon is the length of time the product will be good to use before your need to throw it out.

You'd think that there would be some type of advertising or public service announcement describing what it was and how to use it!

Just an FYI, Eve Organics mineral makeup has no expiration.  Since we do not add any fillers or additives to our makeup, and minerals are inherently inert (means they cannot grow mold or bacteria), there is no expiration date.  However, Eve Organics skin care is a different story.  Our skin care, along with lip glosses, sticks and eyeliners are guaranteed for one year, if kept in conditions that are favorable (between 40 and 75 degrees).  Any warmer or cooler, the product will degrade more quickly and the consistency would change. 

We put expirations on the bottom of the bottle so you know when that date would be.  It is one year from manufacture, not 1 year from opening.  That's why we don't use the icon.

Check Out Our New Lipsticks!

We've added safe lipsticks to our line of mineral makeup products and they're finally on the website!  As with all of Eve Organicsproducts, our lipsticks are completely free of all dyes, petrochemicals, fillers, phthalates, parabens, fragrance, talc, bismuth and synthetic chemicals.  Our lipsticks are also vegan and gluten/wheat free.

The lipstick pigments compliment a natural makeup look.  They look a smidgen lighter on the lips than they do in the tube.  When applied, the color is more of a stain than bright, jump out at you color.  To achieve brighter colors, dyes would need to be added to the formula.  This would compromise our mission, so we choose not to do it. They are beautiful colors. . . Try one! 

Ingredients:  Cocoa Butter, Candelilla Wax, Castor Oil, Meadowfoam Seed Oil, Sesame Oil, Avocado Butter, Macademia Nut Oil, Vitamin E (rice- based), Mica, Iron Oxides, Titanium Dioxide, may contain Manganese Violet.
